- I was at work a few weeks back and an info-mercial for the "Golden Age of Country" came on. I couldn't stop watching the list scroll by of song after song of amazing old school honky tonk material. I immediately went home and started writing all of my own stuff inspired by this badass era of music. I quickly realized that in my inventory of unfinished material was an abundance of Alt/Country style stuff and that I would be able to write a lot of material quickly. So I did. I called up my friend Colby Sanders who plays Dobro, pedal steel, and b-bender guitar with Rachel Herrington and Robbie Walden. He has already taken his Nashville style chops internationally touring and performing. Also is Jeff Leonard (Upright and electric bass) and Darin Watkins (craviotto drums) who play music full time professionally with people like Vicci Martinez, Michael Williams, Geoffrey Castle and many more. These guys got really excited about the project and now we are in full swing writing and practicing some great stuff for you guys. We have styles ranging from honky tonky, 2-step boot kickin, singalongs, ballads, and some rock stuff piped through the country instrumentation that crosses into a style I'm not really sure how to describe.
Our set will start out with me performing some of my "One Man Banned" stuff but then a "Magical Transformation" (yes it is some theatrical trickery) will take place onstage when I turn into my alter ego "Aaron Wayne and the Bloody Knuckles". From there on out there are no rules as to where it may go. I've got something special worked out for any of those who show up in cowboy hats and belt buckles!
Also on the bill is Michael Vermillion! From 2001 to 2005 Michael Vermillion played bass in the band Vendetta Red. After leaving the band he began playing solo acoustic shows around town. He eventually added a full backing band, including peddle steel and the previously mentioned trumpet, to give the songs a much more lush sound. Michael contributed to the Lonesome Rhoads album and has also collaborated with Vince Mira, the sixteen year-old reincarnation of Johnny Cash. He has an amazing range of alt/country sounds and styles making him a must see!!
And opening the night is Mads Jacobsen! A 17 year old song writing prodigy who sounds like a fusion of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, all recharged with a youthfull passionate voice of politics and society!
I am so excited to play this night and enjoy the energy of the room. Come on out and help make it a night to remember!
